Liberté.

(I was born to know you, to name you: liberty)

As Paul Éluard did in his famous 1942 poem "Liberté, j'écris ton nom" (Liberty, I write your name), I wrote the word once: liberté...and, just as by the magic of poetry it was evoked, intoned, chanted and lauded in every verse while only appearing in the last- by the magic of pattern repeat and printing, here it is, dozens of time on one beautiful shirt! .....

Our "Liberté" shirt is a beautiful organic cotton poplin dress shirt with shell-buttons and an old-school Italian men's cut: darts, tail, stiff cuffs and a stiff collar that can be popped up! It can be worn with a suit...or a bathing suit! It can be worn by men and women, of course. But men, beware: the buttons are on the women's side, the right side! It will be jarring at first when you button it up, but you will quickly get used to it, as we women are used to buttoning men's shirts!

Because printing with indigo (as opposed to dip-dyeing or making resist patterns with indigo) is a special technique that we have not mastered yet, the fabric was printed in India. The shirts, however, were cut and sewn in New York, as is usual at Setton, J. Textiles, because we believe in making things nearby, which in our case happens to be the Northeastern coast of North America.
